What does an event moderator do exactly?

An event moderator guides an event, symposium, conference or other gathering from the stage, providing a clear thread throughout. They introduce the speakers and ensure the day stays focused on its goals.

In this role, the event moderator also keeps an eye on timing and atmosphere, can host interviews or panel discussions, and engages the audience.

Rosalie  as event moderator

Preparation, interaction with the audience and the purpose of the day are at the heart of what I do. Creating the right atmosphere is important to me, and my style is professional, light-hearted and personal.

My academic and professional background lies in the life sciences. For more information, see my Life Science Interim page. As an event moderator, I also take on assignments on completely different topics—and find them just as interesting.

I’ve lived abroad for many years, in for example England, Scotland and Singapore, which means I’m also available for international or English-language events.

Het publiek zit in een conferentiezaal en luistert naar een spreker die op een podium staat.

Experience

I’ve spoken to groups of 30–250 people at information sessions, lectures, conferences and a charity auction. Topics have ranged widely, from a new rowing course to the arrival of the digital euro.

Satisfied clients are important to me. Curious to hear what people think of my work? See the reviews below.

"Rosalie moderated one of our annual All Employee meetings early in her career.

She led the event for a group of 150 as though she’d been doing it for years: just the right tone, engaging interaction with the audience and speakers, and sharp, clear questions."

"Together with Rutger Mollee, Rosalie moderated a very successful session on digital currencies at De Nieuwe Schatkamer.

She asked incisive yet accessible questions and made complex topics such as crypto, stablecoins and the digital euro understandable for a broad audience. She did so with humour and great insight. A pleasure to listen to—you’re welcome back anytime, Rosalie!"

Organisation Consultant & Working Group Member, Groninger Roeibond

"Rosalie has a unique ability to create a welcoming atmosphere where participants feel at ease and encouraged to join the conversation.

It was also a pleasure to discuss the content, aims and context of our event during the preparations. Her collaborative approach helped us prepare well and focus on the event’s core purpose. This, in turn, created a positive atmosphere among the audience, who also showed their appreciation afterwards."

"Rosalie was an excellent conference moderator at our congress. Well prepared and armed with thoughtful questions, she kept every speaker to their allotted time.

Rosalie had taken the time to learn about the unfamiliar world of personal injury, occupational health and absenteeism, and had spoken to all the speakers beforehand. Her positive energy made our conference a success! In short, highly recommended—book her as your conference moderator. "
